Diagnostic imaging

  • Digital Video Endoscope: enables us to examine both the upper and lower respiratory tracts using a flexible fibre-optic probe. Both medical and functional abnormalities can be detected using the scope including the build up of excess mucus in cases of recurrent airway obstruction (RAO formerly COPD) and partial laryngeal paralysis resulting in narrowing of the upper airway. Endoscopy can also be used as a diagnostic tool for bladder and urinary problems and uterine investigations
  • Digital Video Gastroscope: this is a 3metre fibre optic probe long enough to assess the digestive tract down to the stomach allowing us to inspect the lining for abnormalities such as ulcers. Common signs of ulcers are weight loss and teeth grinding
  • Ultrasonography: the practice has two mobile scanners used predominately for scanning limbs to detect soft tissue damage, such as tendon and ligament injuries, also for fertility work when the uterus is scanned prior to insemination and for pregnancy diagnosis. They are also used to scan internal organs such as the liver when guide is needed to take biopsies. Our larger static unit is used when more power and depth is required to get a better image, for example when assessing the gluteal muscles for damage.
  • Digital Radiography: we have two units, one large static machine that we use to x-ray the head, neck, spinous processes, chest, abdomen and pelvic bones and the other smaller unit for x-raying the limbs. The digital processor enables us to enhance images allowing us to focus on any area of concern, giving a better diagnosis.

Due to this high tech digital equipment we are able to copy video footage and images taken during examinations to disc at the request of the owner.
